This Red Carpet Trend Is Totally Unexpected
When it comes to a red carpet, we often expect elegant gowns and straight-off-the-runway pieces from those posing for the cameras. However, Glamour's Women of the Year fête was filled with women who opted to go a different route, in office-worthy attire with a fashion-forward twist. That's right: Some of the best dressed ladies of the evening skipped the elaborate gowns and grabbed structured separates, collared sheaths, and buttoned-up dresses.
For starters, actress Zendaya wowed in a ladylike Reem Acra S/S 17 mini, which was adorned with delicate buttons and had the most stunning petal-embellished sleeves. She went all-out in the bauble department, wearing diamonds and pearls on nearly every finger. Meanwhile, model Adwoa Aboah donned a 2016 version of a power suit, complete with a vintage-inspired double-breasted jacket, cropped trousers, a chic Gucci bag, and satin pink kitten heels.
Elsewhere on the red carpet, Lena Dunham draped herself in a colourful, Joan Holloway–inspired custom ensemble by designer Jonathan Cohan. For Yara Shahidi, everything was coming up florals as she wore a playfully printed belted number, while Keke Palmer went for a subdued black sheath featuring details like contrasting cuffs and shiny gold accents.
