The Biggest Denim Trends for 2017, All in One Place

No matter what the season, denim acts as the perfect building block for your wardrobe (our team especially). It can be dressed up, dressed down, and acts like a neutral—is there anything you can’t wear with your favourite jeans? And it really is an exciting time for denim. Never have we had as many options as we do today. Ever since those 3x1 frayed hem jeans and the Vetements movement hit last year, we’ve been trying to keep up with all the new styles, cuts, and embellishments that have been popping up. What happened to the humble skinny jean, you ask? For now, we’re putting them away and reserving for days when fashion doesn’t matter, and we’re only looking for comfort. For any other day? There’s no reason not to experiment.

If you’re faithful to the same few pairs, now is the perfect time to invest in something different. As we come into winter, jeans will feature heavily on rotation, and with all the trends we’re highlighting below, we don’t think you’ll want to stop at just one pair. Scroll down to discover seven new denim trends that will be huge this year.

Australian label Ellery brought back button front jeans, and we have a feeling it won't be the only brand embracing the trend for autumn. Best part? The vertical buttons give the illusion of longer legs. Style these '70s vibe jeans with a tucked in vintage tee.

While last year was all about the frayed hem, this year it's shifting to the frayed waist. You saw it here first.

Did you keep any of your iron on patches from primary school? You can thank Gucci for bringing this one back. We say the more patches, the better. Search on Etsy to DIY if you don't want to make the splurge.

The new version of mom jeans have absolutely no stretch. Just like in the '80s. When you're trying these on in store, our tip is to sit down in them (so you can make sure you can actually sit).

Once reserved for coastal getaways, white jeans are definitely making a return. They feel fresh and chic when updated in new shapes (like this kick flare version from J Brand). Wear yours with a silk slip cami, or a chunky knit once the weather cools down.

It's probably been a long time since you've thought about wearing wide leg jeans. Think of them as the next version of your boyfriend jeans. Wear them with flat slides and an off the shoulder top, or dressed up for work with a crisp button down and sharp pumps.

These layered jeans are definitely reserved for denim aficionados. We first spotted these at fashion month back in February 2016, but since then, they've been gaining steam. Look out 2017, these jeans will be everywhere.
