Ashley Graham Was Just Honored in a Unique Way
Body inclusivity has been a huge topic as of late. Well, slowly but surely, it looks like the fashion world is continuing to work towards more positive messaging in this arena. Barbie teamed up with Glamour to honour Ashley Graham at the magazine's Women of the Year 2016 summit with her very own lookalike doll. The company created the Ashley Graham Barbie doll as a thank you for all the model does for body positivity, self-acceptance, and female empowerment. It's another step in the right direction from Barbie's parent company, Mattel, which launched three new body types earlier this year—petite, curvy, and tall—as a part of its 2016 Fashionistas line. This same line also includes seven skin tones, 22 eye colours, and 24 hairstyles, increasing its relevance for children of all backgrounds.
“We need to work together to redefine the global image of beauty and continue to push for a more inclusive world,” said Ashley Graham in an official press release. “I’m thrilled Barbie has not only evolved their product, but also has continued to honour women who are pushing boundaries. It’s an honour to be immortalised in plastic.” We couldn't have said it better ourselves.
